For other sites of service, Medicare has no regulations as present. For Medicare purposes, only a therapist can supervise a tech, therapist assistants are not allowed to supervise anyone. Under Part A, the therapist can supervise the tech and utilize those minutes providing the tech is in direct line of sight of the therapist and can instruct the tech or immediately take over treatmen= t. Under Part B regulations, the tech cannot contribute to any direct one-on-one billable services. <o:p></o:p> I have attached the section from the RAI manual and highlighted the rules. The new LCD went into effect on September 1st and a lot of providers are experiencing a lar= ge amount of denial due to the much stricter LCD. The LCD identifies appropriate diagnoses for the HCPCS codes and if the claim does not indicate the right code for the right diagnosis, the claim is being denied.<o:p></o:p> As we emphasiz= e in our seminars, it is vital for therapist to be aware of the Medicare regulation, The LCDs they work under and their State Practice Act. Ignorance of regulations is not an excuse. For other sites of service, Medicare has no regulations as present. For Medicare purposes, only a therapist can supervise a tech, therapist assistants are not allowed to supervise anyone. Under Part A, the therapist can supervise the tech and utilize those minutes providing the tech is in direct line of sight of the therapist and can instruct the tech or immediately take over treatmen= t. Under Part B regulations, the tech cannot contribute to any direct one-on-one billable services. <o:p></o:p> I have attached the section from the RAI manual and highlighted the rules.
